I'm finally in Bangkok!

The journey from Siem Reap was pretty difficult - about 14 hours of travelling on buses. The first leg was a 6 hour stint on a mini bus to the border along a one track road full of bumps and pot holes. It's the dreaded journey in which all travellers I have bumped into along the way say that it's absolute hell...it is! We got to the border alright then had to wait for ages for passports to be stamped etc. and then walked over a line and were suddenly in Thailand, it was very strange!

We got on another mini bus and got to Bangkok last night. It's certianly an introduction into Wstern civilisation - this place has got a Marks and Spencer, a Boots, a Mc Donalds and a Starbucks it's so weird. They even drive on the left and have petrol stations which look like ones in England...not just an old lady at the side of the road with plastic bottles filled with fuel.

Today we went on the boat/bus along the river and tried out the sky train. We dropped in at 'China Town' and came across a market with goods that we wanted to buy such as watches and bracelets but it turned out to be a wholesale market and you can only buy things by the tonne - not by the unit. We were going to visit the 'Royal Palace' but were not dressed appropriately...they don't allow bare shoulders or cropped trousers so we'll go back tomorrow. We came across a Hagen Daaz stand and had the nicest ice-cream I'e ever tasted!
